Water is the substantial part of all ecosystems and it is crucial for survival of species. It is also a scarce resource surrounded with many debates about its value, price and allocation mechanisms. At many places worldwide, water has been declared a public good and it is administrated by public organizations. Different economic theories deal with social implications of this governance arrangement. Thus the field of water allocation is not only the domain of hydrologists or biologists but also economists.<\/span><\/p>\n

IEEP focus on the institutional, economic and political consequences of different water governance schemes. Flood risk management and damage mitigation represents the specific sub-field of interest. We also deal with analyses of institutional reforms and participatory approaches in relation to the Water Framework Directive implementation.<\/p>\n
