Our research team, represented by <strong>Jan Mach\u00e1\u010d <\/strong>and <strong>Ji\u0159\u00ed Louda<\/strong>, presented two contributions. The first, delivered by J. Mach\u00e1\u010d and linked to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieep.cz\/en\/rebioclim-restoring-urban-streams-to-promote-biodiversity-climate-adaptation-and-to-improve-quality-of-life-in-cities\/\">ReBioClim<\/a> project, examined the restoration of urban rivers through the lens of residents\u2019 preferences, based on case studies from four cities, highlighting both societal benefits and key implementation barriers. The second, presented by J. Louda, focused on organic farming, outlining its environmental benefits for landscape functioning and water regimes, as well as the economic and administrative obstacles to its wider adoption.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong data-start=\"39\" data-end=\"95\">16th Biennial CzWA Conference (Water 2025), Litomy\u0161l<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The biennial CzWA conference has been connecting experts in the field of efficient and sustainable water management for 30 years. This year\u2019s 16th edition took place in Litomy\u0161l from 17\u201319 September, and representatives of the IEEP team were there. <strong>Jan Mach\u00e1\u010d<\/strong>, as part of the CESMOD project, presented residents\u2019 preferences regarding blue-green measures for stormwater management. <strong>Lenka Za\u0148kov\u00e1<\/strong>, within the SpongeBoost project, demonstrated how the benefits of wetlands can be economically evaluated and subsequently used as a basis for decision-making and for developing innovative financing tools. <strong>\u0160t\u011bp\u00e1nka Truhl\u00e1\u0159ov\u00e1<\/strong> presented a poster on the untapped potential of climate data, including a proposal for an interactive adaptation decision-support tool being developed within the Climate_CRICES project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>5th European Conference on Biodiversity and Climate Change: Riverine and Coastal\u00a0Wetlands, Bonn<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">The international conference, held from 26-28 September 2023, in its fifth edition, focused on the theme of wetlands and their role in biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation\/adaptation. The aim was to enhance the exchange of experiences and networking between scientists, policy makers and practitioners. One of the invited speakers at the conference was <strong>Jan Mach\u00e1\u010d<\/strong>, who presented his contribution <span style=\"color: black;\">\u201e<\/span>Introduction to wetland ecosystem services and their socio-economic importance<span style=\"color: black;\">\u201c.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>9. International Symposium on Energy from Biomass and Waste, Venice<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><span style=\"color: black;\">9th symposium was held on 21.- 23.11.2022, 150 experts from around the world participated, including colleagues from Australia and South America. Main goal of the conference was the actual development of alternative technologies for the waste re-use. Also the executive board of the<\/span><span style=\"color: black;\"> IWWG (International Waste Working Group) met and elected the new president for 2025-2026. Our colleague, <strong>Jan Slav\u00edk<\/strong>, has served as the leader of the working sub-group \u201eEconomics of Waste\u201c.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>Urban Transitions 2022, Sitges<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">In November 2022, <strong>Hana Br\u016fhov\u00e1-Folt\u00fdnov\u00e1<\/strong> and <strong>Ji\u0159\u00ed Louda<\/strong> participated et <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elsevier.com\/events\/conferences\/urban-transitions\"><strong>Urban Transitions 2022<\/strong><\/a>. Hana Br\u016fhov\u00e1-Folt\u00fdnov\u00e1 talked about results from <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mobilita-ieep.cz\/\">Mobility and Transport<\/a><\/strong> group that investigated COVID-19 pandemics impact on transport behavior. Ji\u0159\u00ed Louda introduced the tool for the evaluation of impacts of green and blue infrastucture for the climate change adaptation.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>TERRAenVISION 2022, Utrecht<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">In July 2022 the TERRAenVISION conference \u201cNature-based solutions to facilitate the transition for living within the planetary boundaries\u201c was held in Utrecht. <strong>Lenka Dubov\u00e1<\/strong> talked about motivations of the community garden coordinators and how to make community efforts sustainable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>3. conference SURE, 2021, Pozna\u0148<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">3rd world conference on society and urban ecology was held on 7. \u2013 9. 7. 2021 in Poznan, Poland.\u00a0 <strong>Lenka Dubov\u00e1 <\/strong>moderated special section on Integrated system analysis of urban greenery and agriculture and she also talked about social benefits of community gardens and how they are understood by the public.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>3. The conference focused on the interaction between science and society in developing solutions for pressing water related problem. Together with <strong>Thomas Hartmann<\/strong> (Wageningen University) and <strong>Thomas Thaler <\/strong>(BOKU, Vienna), Lenka Slavikova co-organized the special session Financial Schemes for Flood Recovery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ieep.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/wageningen_specialsessionproposal.pdf\">Special Session Proposal: Financial Schemes for Flood Recovery<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>(Em)Powering Hydrodiplomacy conference (HH9), Den Haag<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Ninth conference on hydro-hegemony was held on 5th \u2013 6th October 2018. Scientists, policymakers, practitioners and students from all over the world met in Haag, Netherlands. <strong>Jan Mach\u00e1\u010d<\/strong> was the chair of one of 11 sessions, which was focused on games and experiments in water management and hydrodiplomacy. He also contributed with a presentation about flooding game that explores the dynamics in negotiation by implementation of flood protection measures in the context of upstream and downstream.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ieep.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Abstract_hague_floodgame_machac_hartmann.pdf\"><strong>Abstract: Exploring upstream-downstream in flood risk management \u2013 A role played flooding game<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>13<sup>th<\/sup> SDEWES Conference, Palermo<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">The 13<sup>th<\/sup>SDEWES Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems was held on 29<sup>th<\/sup>September \u2013 4<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0 October 2018. Experts met in Palermo, Sicily. <strong>Lenka Dubov\u00e1\u00a0<\/strong>explained why city government should support the community gardens in cities. She presented about benefits of community gardens for members, citizens\u00a0and adaptation to climate change. <strong>Ond\u0159ej Voj\u00e1\u010dek\u00a0<\/strong>presented about costs of achieving emissions limits on coal burning power plants in Czech Republic. The lecture focused on the problem of coast erosion in Australia and the need for re-settlement of private property owners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>12<sup>th<\/sup> SDEWES Conference, Dubrovnik<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">In October 2017, 12<sup>th\u00a0<\/sup>Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environmental Systems was organized in Dubrovnik, Croatia. IEEP team of the project <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ieep.cz\/en\/ce-heat-comprehensive-model-of-waste-heat-utilization-in-ce-regions\/\">CE-HEAT<\/a><\/strong> organized the special section there, dealing with the problem of waste heat utilization in the Central Europe. <strong>Ondrej Vojacek<\/strong> presented about household preferences regarding future waste heat uses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>7<sup>th<\/sup> International Conference on Flood Management, Leeds<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">In September 2017, <strong>Lenka Slavikova<\/strong> attended the international flood conference in Leeds, Great Britain.
