WATER
Project: SE CLIMATE: A socio-economic analysis of climate change impact within the context of water management in the Czech Republic – the cost efficiency of water management services and instruments for their regulation
Submitter: Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic
Time of Relevance: 2009–2011
– Evaluating the available information resources on links between climate change and water in a European (Czech) context and methods of processing them.
– Identifying and describing the hydrological impacts of climate change (significant aspects for accessibility of services connected with water) and the impacts on the socio-economic system.
– An analysis of water resources accessibility and its impact on market segments, a model of climate change influence on the effectiveness of direct and indirect instruments in water management.
– The completion and improvement of decision making processes for climate change impacts in water management (adaptation measures and their socio-economic context).
Hydrological research (monitoring water quality and quantity, extreme phenomena – floods and drought) constitutes the basis for climate change impact research. It is concerned above all with the impact of future changes on the sustainable development of natural systems, water resources and water management services linked with water. With regard to the ambiguity of present calculations of climate change impacts on the water regime in the CR, the existing administrative and economic instruments have not been adjusted up to now. The discussions about their possible modification towards better flexibility are just beginning. The objective of the project, solved by The T. G. Masaryk Water Research Institute and IEEP, propose to analyse both the hydrological and socio-economic impacts of climate change on water management in the CR. The main contribution of the project is its interdisciplinary approach to the issue.
